Finally!

Finally the Boneyard Shawl is finished! You can find the pattern at Westknits It’s a really simple triangular shawl pattern with easy-to-remember instructions, it was really easy to work on on-the-go without referring to the pattern so it was the only thing I’ve worked on for a couple of months, instant gratification knitting – no fuss ;)

I knit it with Superba Poems Sock Yarn and 3.25mm circs. Unbelievably (to me) I knit the whole thing with a single 100g ball, making the yarn mad good value as well as being very pretty. It is slightly thick-and-thin and on a fine yarn this makes the “thin” really vanishingly thin so I was almost thinking it would break, but it held out, I think it’s supposed to be like that, right?

It’s a really nice shawl now it’s done, although the weather is too warm to wear it. I wish I’d photographed it before blocking to show the huge difference. It was one of those where, before I blocked it, I didn’t want to photograph it because it was just so “meh”. It is the magic of blocking, do not underestimate it!

Peaceful seaside moments

Another cinemagraph by Andrew King, this time made with video I shot a week ago

I love the stillness, and the motion, just that bit-more-alive than a photo

Not a lot of action around here lately

Cinemagraph by Andrew King

I admit I’ve been standing still with this blog while the rest of the internet rushes forward. By a happy coincidence I’m able to illustrate this with this cinemagraph of me made by my talented partner Andrew King.

There has been knitting, there has been finishing of knitted objects, and there has been eBay yarn lust of epic proportion. I’ll be back with tales of all of that in the near future. See soon, folks!

A little knitting

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I’ve been on holiday for a few days and, until today, the weather has been supernaturally gorgeous and it’s been such a welcome break. Back to work and normal life tomorrow. I feel I can *just about* face it all now.

I so love the sunshine, and the seaside. I wonder how many days I’ll be able to leave it until I book more time off? I’ve got 8 days leave to book until August. I’m fortunate but I do wish for more.

Something cottony this way comes

This is starting to get worrying, barely any knitting for weeks and now look what has happened, someone seems to have started a new tumbling block pattern someone seems unable to resist their cottony charm. Someone’s wool obsession may be facing some competition.

Goodness.

Someone will keep you posted, no doubt.

Summer in April

We’ve had some incredible weather this week. I’ve been walking around campus amazed at the blue sky and the bright sunshine. On Wednesday I took my camera with me.

This pigeon looks incredibly plastic but I promise he is real. I saw him fly away!

This is a blue tit I think.

This is a blackbird. He was pretty noisy for a little guy.
